Kindergarten News
Happy September! We've had an awesome first two weeks of school. The Kindergarteners have been busy transitioning into our "big kid class", and getting to know new friends, lessons, and routines. September is for getting down to Business! This week, we met our first Letter Person: Mr. M, Munching Mouth! This month (and throughout most of the school year), we'll continue to meet one Letter Person a week as part of our literacy curriculum.

We've also been working hard on our 1-10 books. I can't stress enough the importance of recognition, value comprehension, and ability to write these basic numbers. They provide the base from which we learn all other math skills.

This month, we'll also be working hard learning the Pledge of Allegiance. We talk about it slowly, and learn what it all means before I have the kids say it every day. Practice reciting the Pledge with your Kindergartener, and talk to him/her about what it means to you!

There are some important dates to remember this month. They are:

Monday, September 2nd. Starbright is closed for Labor Day! Have a great 3-day weekend! Wednesday, September 25th. Join me in our classroom at 6:00 for our Kindergarten Parent Night! This is your Kindergarten orientation! Come hear about the way we do things, and everything going on in our classroom this year. There will be limited space in the Space Room for your child to hang out with Christina during Parent Night. Let us know if you will need a spot.

A few classroom reminders:

We swim every Friday! Send your child to school wearing his/her bathing suit under clothes. Don't forget a swim bag with a towel and underwear!

Letter Show and Tell is every Thursday! Please help your child to find one thing that starts with the letter of the week to show to the class.

At Starbright,we need two pairs of shoes! "Outside" shoes for the playground and "inside" shoes to wear in our classroom. This helps to keep our classroom clean!

Thanks for your involvement! Please ask if you have questions or concerns about anything.I'm looking forward to a busy and productive month!
